Welcome to the E-portolio of Dr. Thom Field!

In this e-portfolio, you will find representations of my teaching, supervision, and counseling philosophies, alongside my professional interests and scholarship, test preparation services, and mental status exam training. I currently work as a full-time faculty member and Program Director of the Counseling program at Oregon State University. I was formerly a faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling and Supervision from James Madison University. I have been recognized as Counselor Educator of the Year by the American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA, 2019). My dissertation on implementing Dialectical Behavior Therapy for adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric unit received the dissertation research award of the AMHCA Foundation.  I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Massachusetts and Washington, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-MH) in South Dakota.  I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) by the Center for Credentialing & Education.  I have worked with clients since 2006 in a variety of settings, including outpatient private practice, inpatient psychiatric units, community agencies, and school settings. I have extensive experience with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief and loss, self-esteem, and affective/ sexual identity, including clients who identify as LGBTQQIA.

I currently see clients at my private practice, which as of now, is only operating virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you are coming to counseling for the first time, or have seen multiple counselors over the years, I would be glad to meet with you and see if I can be of help.
